According to a poll by Unsisys 61% of all US citizens believe that their President should have the power to basically switch off the Internet in the event of a cyber attack. It conjures up images of the IT Crowd when Jen takes “The Internet” to a presentation only to break it but it is in actual fact a quite serious poll.

Cyber warfare is considered one of the gretest threats of the modern time and it seems that the US population is taking it very seriously at least. They believe that the Federal Government should have the power to kill the Internet should the need arise, even if this means switching off the web for any country that does not comply with the American way.

General consensus is that the idea, which is being pushed as a viable defense in the future, may be more harmful than good giving terrorists the perfect attack to launch.

Fortunately, polls aren’t known for their accuracy on all occasions and it may just be that sense wins out over any other underlying emotion that the US public might have.
